As one of the very young brands, Christian Bitz stoneware services, for example, are enjoying great popularity. The German nutritionist is known to the public through numerous television appearances. When F & H of Scandinavia approached Bitz in 2015 with the idea of his own brand, he immediately agreed and the success story began. The tableware reflects the Scandinavian Wabi Sabi trend and aims to slow down eating and make it more conscious with the right tableware.
The Finnish brand Arabia is also an advocate of pure functionality when it comes to Scandinavian tableware. The label's new Finnish popular tableware is called KoKo and was an instant success throughout Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. KoKo plates, cups, bowls and bowls are available in different colors. A particularly beautiful impression is created when predominantly white service parts are complemented by colored parts of the stoneware tableware.
…and absolutely classic for once
This is contrasted by plates, saucers, cups and large serving platters from traditional manufacturers such as Royal Copenhagen from Denmark, Iittala from Finland and Rörstrand from Sweden. Royal Copenhagen has a great reputation as a supplier to the Danish royal family. Musselmalet or the brand's simple „Whiteß Ribbed“ service are among the series that have been produced for many decades and are certainly among the best-known Danish tableware, albeit in a partially reworked form. „White ribbed“ is a typical, Scandinavian basic tableware that harmonizes with some other more exciting tableware according to the „mix-and-match principle“.
Marimekko, Iittala, Rörstrand
In addition to pure white plates, cups, bowls and bowls, the Oiva tableware from Marimekko also includes service pieces that bring color to the table. The Räsymatto (Finnish for patchwork) pattern from 2009 or Finland's national pattern Unikko as well as many other well-known patterns set special accents. The shape of the Oiva tableware always remains the same, which is particularly fitting, even when designs are combined with great colorfulness, as is the case with the Sääpäiväkirja or Veljekset designs! Iittala offers design classics with the Teema tableware, which originally came from the current sister brand Arabia. Swedish Grace comes from Rörstrand and is the Swedish counterpart. Mon Amie by Marianne Westman dates from 1952 and is therefore around 30 years younger than Swedish Grace, which does not mean that it is any less popular.
Sweden's Sunday crockery also comes from Rörstrand. It is called Ostindia because it was inspired by a shard found in the shipwreck of an Ostindia driver not far from the Swedish coast. Thanks to the director's wife at the time, Rörstrands, the service made it into the manufacturer's collection in the 1930s. Since then, it has been one of the world's most popular tableware items. Parts of it have been repeatedly adapted to contemporary tastes and supplemented. The manufacturer still relies on handmade production for some service parts, which makes the tableware set authentic Scandinavian, but also somewhat more expensive.
Dänish tableware
Danish tableware in particular is a real export hit and very popular in Germany. The Danes discovered „whiteßgold“ porcelain early on. As the äoldest porcelain manufactory, Royal Copenhagen has been cultivating a special tradition of craftsmanship since 1775. However, young brands are also enriching the market with typical products. With the New Norm tableware series from Menu, architects Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn ventured into a tableware collection in 2013 that is deeply rooted in Danish design tradition and yet aims to set new standards. New Norm is a pure tableware with many pieces that can be wonderfully combined with other tableware and is perfectly complemented by the table accessories, serving aids and decorations from Menu.
The F & H brand Bitz produces really high-quality and beautiful porcelain in numerous factories. Glassblowers and ceramics are also enjoying great popularity again today and are revitalizing handicrafts in Denmark and other countries. Danish tableware from Broste Copenhagen, Eva Solo and Eva Trio, Georg Jensen, Kähler Design or Lyngby is now familiar in Denmark, Scandinavia and Central Europe to anyone with a taste for design and functionality.
