For kitchen and household: High-quality tea towels from Scandinavia

Especially items you hold every day should be appealing and stylish. Following this motto, Scandinavian kitchen towels and other Scandi kitchen textiles, such as apronsv, definitely do, possibly making even unwanted tasks more pleasant with beautiful patterns and fresh colors.

Pit towels for the kitchen?

Did you know that miners call dish towels pit towels? This is because snacks or warm meals, which were lowered into a pit, were often covered with them to keep the food dust-free. Miners also appreciated the robust properties of the pit towels to wipe coal dust or sweat from their faces. Traditionally, these sturdy cotton or half-linen towels were therefore gray-mottled, black, or dark brown. However, the modern Touchons (grabbers), as it's called in France, is no longer dreary, but colorful. The Scandinavians particularly demonstrate this, where depending on the country, the tea towel is called Kjøkkenhåndkle, Kökshanddukar, Teepyyhe, or Viskestykke. A pit towel in this form is not known there to our knowledge.

Happy everyday life through beautiful things

Scandinavians place great emphasis on everyday objects being high quality and beautifully designed. If you don't know what we mean, you should definitely check out the varied dish towels from Lapuan Kankurit, Ekelund, Klippan, or Finlayson. Cheerful sunflowers, funny motifs from Nordic stories, floral patterns, all sorts of animal images, and quirky little figures can be found on so many kitchen towels that have traveled the long way from the North to our online shop to make your drying more enjoyable.

Our kitchen towels from the North

Every high-quality tea towel made of linen or cotton definitely looks very different from those you know from German kitchens. Everyday here, apart from care instructions for machine washing, are only the dimensions of the towels: our dish towels come in the usual sizes of 45-50 by 70 cm or 30-35 by 50 cm. They are cheerfully Scandinavian, fun, and tell a story. Furthermore, your kitchen towel is made to last and is also made of sustainable materials.

Cotton kitchen towels

The vast majority of our dish towels are woven from cotton. It's a naturally absorbent product with a great tradition and well-known reliability. The renowned manufacturer Klippan, for instance, produces with OEKO-TEX certified cotton in Europe. The tea towels are light but extremely durable and absorbent. Bengt Lindberg & Lotta Glave, the Swedish graphic artist duo, are responsible for the design. Their nature-inspired and typical Scandi designs ensure that the Swedes also like to use the beautiful towels as high-quality wrapping paper or bread basket cloth. Vallila also produces its cotton dish towels from certified organic cotton, which are visually at least as colorful and vibrant. The vast majority of our cotton towels for the kitchen come from Ekelund. The wonderful patterns of the brand show still lifes, elves in action, floral designs, or typical Swedish landscape scenes. Ekelund has even developed a very special process for its woven towels in Sweden. The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified cotton is woven in up to 8 colors simultaneously and ensures the special manufacturing depth and special fabric quality for which the company is known.

Half-linen tea towels

Ekelund, Finlayson, Lapuan Kankurit, or Almedahls also lovingly produce half-linen kitchen towels. These dish towels consist mainly of linen. Their cotton content is usually between 25 and 45%. The towels combine the absorbent properties of cotton with the lint-free quality of linen. Although it is a logical further development, Northern and Central Europeans still prefer the classic made of pure cotton. This is a pity given the stylish selection and elegant designs in our shop.

Linen towels for dishes

100% linen dish towels, like the ones we offer from Lapuan Kakurit, are antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and wonderfully lint-free. The linen towels, woven by the Master of Linen Weavery in Finland, are very absorbent and focus on special sustainability. This includes the cultivation of flax in the relatively nearby Normandy and REACH-compliant production. This is dedicated to the protection of human health and the environment and ensures an exceptional lack of chemicals and toxic substances through laboratory tests.
