Opto Design - Table accessories and tableware with Pippi Longstocking or the Moomins

The idea of sustainably integrating works by well-known illustrators into everyday life to make each of your days a little fresher led to the founding of Opto Design by Helena Melin in 2008. Since then, the Swedish company has made sure that the heroes of a Swedish childhood, who are of course also known in our country, can be seen on tableware and table accessories such as trays, cups, placemats, china plates and other products. When choosing suitable materials for the creations, the company attaches great importance to quality. The small helpers for the kitchen or the table are also made exclusively in Sweden.

It all started with the Moomins

When the first Opto Design wooden trays, coasters, trivets, placemats, cutting boards and trays were launched in 2008, they were real bestsellers from the start. The brand owes this to a large extent to the motifs of these first products, which show the mummies, especially popular in Scandinavia. The hippo-like mythical creatures penned by the popular author and illustrator Tove Jansson are incredibly popular and have been able to display their loving charm in the „Opto Design – The Moomin Collection“ since 2008. The portfolio was expanded following initial successes, both in terms of motifs and product range. The Moomin collection included already a short time later additionally handbags, fabric bags, soaps, napkins, tableware, posters, art prints and some products more.

More than Finnish trolls – Emil from Lönneberga and Pippi Longstocking

In addition to the Mumins and a Beatles collection from 2010, other youth book heroes have been part of Opto Design's range since 2014. The label from near Stockholm, which also likes to rely on handicraft, launched a whole series of placemats, enamel mugs, plates and tin cans on which the famous mischief-makers Emil from Lönneberga and Pippi Longstocking are up to their mischief. With the heroes of Astrid Lindgren, one of the world's best-known children's authors of the 20th century, the brand finally gained international attention and is winning more and more friends every day. Are you one of them?

New impetus from Lisa Larson and Stig Lindberg

Back in 2011, the company began collaborating with talented ceramic designer Lisa Larson. Her playful illustrations still fit wonderfully with the brand's DNA, but they are not based on well-known motifs, but go their own, grown-up ways. Today, lovers certainly owe a bit of this positive development to the popular new edition of tableware with patterns by Stig Lindberg. The legendary Swedish designer is considered the father of Swedish design. In his education were Größen like Bertil Vallien, Ulrica Hydman-Vallien, Marianne Westman and Signe Persson-Melin. In particular, beautiful patterns from Lindberg's pen were used on Opto Design trays, napkins, tableware, placemats, trivets and bowls. These include, for example, the designs „Blues“, „Herbarium one to three“ and „Evergreen“.
