Eva Solo and Eva Trio: Design and tradition since 1913
The Danish company Eva Solo was founded as Kai Fog in Måløv near Copenhagen in 1913. But it was only after twenty-five years that the company achieved its international breakthrough in 1939 when Erik Mangor, the nephew of the founder, was hired as managing director.
Eva
In the 1950s, Erik Mangor launched the first products of the Eva brand, named after his daughter. The label's first highlight was a sausage slicer in 1952 which received several design awards and became the first sales success of the still young brand. The collection was gradually expanded: in 1970, a simple coffee maker was offered that shaped the brand's image within its native Denmark. Erik Mangor and, later, his son Johan launched the Eva Trio brand after this success. They commissioned distinguished Danish industrial designer Ole Palsby (1935-2010) to design cooking pots and kitchen utensils in a distinctive and special design. Ole Palsby preferred an organic and minimalist design language and created what would become his most famous product in 1985: the Alfi vacuum jug.
Ole Palsby's vision has shaped Eva Trio and Danish design
Without a doubt, Ole Palsby's design language shaped the face of the Eva Trio brand in Denmark. Indeed, it became the leading supplier of cooking and kitchen utensils in its homeland. In the mid-1980s, Ole Palsby designed a porcelain series for Eva Trio with crockery and accessories. However, it was his spice and storage containers with cork lids that achieved particular international success.
In 1994, Johan Mangor becomes managing director and Eva Solo is born
In the mid-1990's, Johan Mangor wanted to expand the company's product range to include a new lifestyle collection for kitchen, home, and garden. To this end, he launched a new brand: Eva Solo.
The Eva Solo brand stands for products with high functionality that offer users significant added value in the handling. It was also to continue the high design standards of the Eva Trio brand, which is why Johan Mangor looked for a permanent design partner to ensure the consistent design lines of the new brand.
At about the same time, two young designers Henrik Holbæk and Claus Jensen were opening their design agency Tools in Copenhagen. The first product from their collaboration with Eva Solo was the Café Solo coffee maker released in 1997. It impresses with its easy handling and its patented drip-free spout. This spout is still used today in Eva Solo products, such as in the award-winning refrigerator carafe, the water carafe, the tea maker, and the vacuum jug. The launch of the Eva Solo brand marked a changing of the guard for the small Danish company. Starting as a basic kitchenware supplier, the company has quickly evolved into a design-oriented Danish company thanks to designers like Tools.
Jan Engelbrecht for Eva Solo
In 1998, Jan Engelbrecht, the nephew of Johan Mangor, joined the management team at Eva Solo. The company's product range has since expanded several times. In addition to kitchen items and tableware, the Eva Solo brand now includes grills, home decoration, and gardening items. The collection now focuses on such themes as water, coffee, tea, barbecues, and bird feeders.
Eva Solo: finally available at scandinavian-lifestyle!
Internationally, the company has since increasingly concentrated on its newer Eva Solo brand. Eva Trio has increasingly become a domestic brand in Denmark and Norway. (The two countries share an extensive shared history and Norway is often the strongest export market for Danish companies.)
As a result, the entire company was also renamed Eva Solo in 2010. Highlights of the last years have been the company's popular drinking bottle, the coffee mug in three sizes, the magnetic coasters: these and many other products are available in the scandinavian-lifestyle.com online shop. We offer many Eva Solo brand products in a wide range of colours. Discover Eva Solo at scandinavian-lifestyle today!
